The Free Tool That Let Me Watch My Website Visitors in Action 👀

“Without data, you’re just another person with an opinion.” - W. Edwards Deming
Hey There,
Last week at Social Media Marketing World, I had the honor of serving as the emcee for the Paid Social Marketing track—the advertising-focused content. It was an incredible experience being behind the scenes, introducing some of the smartest minds in digital marketing, and getting a front-row seat to their presentations.
One of the most unexpectedly cool sessions I saw was from Chris Mercer—you might know him as the analytics genius behind MeasurementMarketing.io. He’s the guy when it comes to measurement and digital analytics, and I’ve learned a ton from him over the years.
His talk was called “Advanced Analytics for Marketers: Leveraging Microsoft Clarity for Success”, and honestly… I didn’t expect to be as blown away as I was.
Wait, What’s Microsoft Clarity?
If you haven’t heard of it yet, Clarity is a free tool from Microsoft that gives you visual insight into how people interact with your website. And when I say visual, I mean it.
Mercer showed how you can literally watch screen recordings of your visitors using your site—what they click, where they scroll, what they ignore. It’s like sitting behind your users while they browse (without being creepy).
Even better, Clarity gives you heatmaps so you can see where attention is going—or not going. You can identify dead zones, confusing layouts, and abandoned interactions, all of which are opportunities to improve your site and increase conversions.
And again, this tool is totally free. No cost. No trials. Just turn it on and start learning.
My Takeaway
As someone who loves data and optimizing user experience, I couldn’t believe I’d overlooked Clarity for this long. GA4 is great for numbers, but Clarity gives you context—it shows you the story behind the stats.
So if you’re running any kind of website—especially one trying to drive leads or sales—I highly recommend checking it out.
👉 Take 10 minutes this weekend and set up Microsoft Clarity. It’s free, easy, and you’ll probably learn something surprising about how people are actually using your site.
Here’s to getting better results through better insight,
Mark
P.S. Big thanks to Chris Mercer for continuing to demystify analytics and make this stuff accessible for the rest of us. If you ever get the chance to hear him speak, do it.

Please Read My Affiliate Disclaimer:
I believe in affiliate marketing because it gives me a way to help people profitably. From time to time, I will promote, endorse, or suggest products and/or services for sale that are not my products. I'm pretty picky and my recommendation is always based on my personal belief that the product will provide excellent value to you and your business. In most cases, I will be compensated via a commission or gift when you decide to purchase that product based on my recommendation. In some cases, I might receive the product for free for review purposes, or just to use. In many cases, I promote products that I actually use in my business (like ConvertKit, the service that sent you this email). That ConvertKit link is an affiliate link. If you sign up for ConvertKit using that link, I get a commission. Make sense?
Here's a really important thing:
Please don't interpret anything in this email as some sort of promise or guarantee of your future earnings. My results are not typical. We've been at this for more than a decade. You could say I am an expert when it comes to online business. This means I have an advantage over most people. I can tell you this -- success takes hard work. Nothing in life or business comes easy or with any guarantees.
By following my recommendations you always agree to do your OWN due diligence before making any purchases, whether we recommend them or not. Never, EVER purchase anything that you cannot afford. Avoid purchasing products that do not have a clearly stated Guarantee, or that promises quick or ridiculous results. And always wear your seatbelt. And take your vitamins.
